Hot Toys "Inglourious Basterds" Col. Hans Landa REVIEW 1

When I first watched "Inglourious Basterds", it was because of (1) Director Quentin Tarantino and (2) Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine. However, once the movie started, it soon became apparent that the star of the show was none other than the brilliant Austrian actor Christoph Waltz as Nazi Waffen-SS Colonel Hans Landa, the "Jew Hunter".

This is the Hot Toys MMS134 (Movie Masterpiece Series) 1/6th scale Col. Hans Landa Collectible Figure with Christoph Waltz likeness from the "Inglourious Basterds" movie. This is the second figure from the movie by Hot Toys, the first being the 1/6 scale Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine Collectible Figure.

The box packaging is similar to that of Hot Toys Lt Aldo Raine packaging. It is basically a shoebox packaging wherein you remove the cover to access the top tray which contains the figure followed by a bottom tray of accessories. Interestingly enough, the top tray holding the 12-inch Col Hans Landa figure has the description "The Detective". I think the term "Jew Hunter" was deemed to be offensive and Hot Toys was afraid of the repercussions.

The design of the box is consistent with all the promotional material for the film, including the movie poster design.

This is the basic Standartenführer (Colonel) Hans Landa figure out of the box, wearing the German Grey Field officer blouse with Colonel Shoulder Tabs plus awards and decorations, the single-oakleaf tabs on both collars, Officer riding breeches, General Officer leather belt and tall knee high black leather-like boots.

The 1/6 head sculpt of Christoph Waltz as Nazi Waffen-SS Colonel Hans Landa is much improved from the prototype pictures released earlier and I'm quite pleased with the final sculpt / product.

A close-up of Col Hans Landa's awards and decorations as well as the black leather belt with buckle.

Under the Wehrmacht M36 Field officer blouse, Colonel Hans Landa has a white inner shirt (long sleeved white under tee)

Nice details on the sole of Hot Toys Hans Landa officer boots as well

Accessories include German Officer peak cap (Schirmmütze), leather-like black trench coat, a pair of grey gloves, Walther P38 pistol with holster, tobacco pipe, black leather-like suitcase, figure display stand with Col. Hans Landa nameplate and movie logo

Close-up of Col Hans Landa's 1:6 scale Walther P38 pistol with working slide and removable magazine and rather bright tobacco pipe

The black leather-like suitcase opens like the real deal, so does the black holster for the Walther P38 pistol

German Officer peak cap (Schirmmütze) with SS insignia (Totenkopf or skull head) on the front of the band and the SS eagle on the peaked cap above, extra hands and grey gloves

Christoph Waltz won the Best Actor Award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival for his performance. In January 2010, Waltz won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. That same month he won a Screen Actors Guild Award in the same category. On February 2, at the announcement of the nominees for the 82nd Academy Awards he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, which he won on March 7. On February 21 he won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor.

It would have been even better if HT opted to use the iconic cunning smile for the headsculpt.
